Part 3 - 25 Years On & Still Going Strong

25 years of impeccable quality

Welcome back to Part 3! The third & final instalment!

1. What’s the one thing you cannot begin your day without?
I can’t make a decent start at work without a nice cup of coffee, but come to think of it, on the weekend it’s also coffee! If I was trapped on a dessert island and asked whether to save the coffee or the wine, I’m getting to the stage where I would pick the coffee! Ten years ago I may have given a different answer!

I find it hard not to sculpt, obviously not first thing in the morning! But it’s something I would find hard not to do!

2. What motivates and inspires you everyday Jonathan?
I’ve got a lovely sign on the wall by my bed and to paraphrase one of the lines, it says ‘glory of the power of action’ something along those lines, it’s doing – it’s all about doing – doing and being. There’s another line in there about not living in the past, not living in the future, but living in the present – the here and now.

3.   Moving forward, what’s the strategy? Which sector would you like to see more growth in?

Another nice question. I would love us to do more showroom work – we used to do a lot of it it’d be great to get back to doing that. I’d love us to be doing stuff that we haven’t done a lot of, namely hotels, restaurants and bars, because we have the potential to succeed there.

4.   Final question – where do you see Silver & Co in the next 25 years?

I see all this wonderful team around me owning Silver & Co, doing wonderful things with it. I’d love us to do more international work. Over the years we’ve done Greece, Germany, Holland, Scandinavia, France Thailand, Japan, America, Canada – why can’t we do more? We could have an office in New York, one in London and an office in a secluded little Greek island where we could just fly over and do a bit of work then off to the beach!

There’s a sense that a London design consultancy means even more outside of the UK – whether we have an office in other places or we do it from here I don’t know. Regardless, London is attracting great designers and of course the advantage of that is that all those designers can do great work all over the world – so why stick to the M25?!
